The City of Sheffield needs no introduction but we’ll give you one anyway.
South Yorkshire’s capital, where the city meets the Peak District. Old cutlery factories producing silver cutlery like they have for hundreds of years sharing premises with a sandwich shop with a creative internet start-up.
It’s diverse, it’s creative and it has thousands of unique opportunities to offer.
Whilst doing well in your studies is obviously important, we know that enjoying your time at college and becoming a well-rounded individual is also a key part of your journey with us.
That’s why we offer all students as many opportunities to enhance their experience as possible, whether that’s through visiting speakers (like the team from Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant, The Fat Duck), trips to relevant industry leaders (think aviation students visiting British Airways HQ), or taking part in national competitions and skills shows.
Not to mention all of our extra-curricular activities like sports teams, societies and student events. As a student at The Sheffield College you’ll have the chance to join elite sports teams, or just play for fun by booking out the sports hall or one of our 3G sports pitches. We also run various events throughout the year, from Freshers’ Fair at the start of the academic year to Christmas makers markets, charity fund raisers and more.
One of our main priorities is to make sure that you’re prepared for the world of work when you leave The Sheffield College, so that you can go further in your career.
Planning for your career doesn’t start when your study programme ends, instead we encourage you to start thinking about your career goals whilst you’re at college so that you can take advantage of all of the opportunities available to you.
We’ve got a dedicated Careers Advice Team who can offer independent and impartial careers guidance; you’ll have the chance to attend progression events and HE fairs, plus we’ve got loads of resources – such as Career Coach - to help you along your career path. On top of that, all of our study programmes contain an element of real work projects (such as project briefs set by real industry employers) and we can even help you to arrange a work experience placement, something that employers love to see on your CV!
At The Sheffield College we understand that juggling the demands of your study programme and everyday life can sometimes be a challenge, so we’re here to help you in any way that we can. Whether you need support with childcare, travel to college, finances or course expenses, or just want someone to talk to, we can help.
We’ve got Tutorial Mentors and Study Assistants on hand to help you with your studies, especially if you need some extra support with Maths and English. Student Services can offer advice on the financial support available to you – whether you need a loan to cover your course fees or a helping hand with purchasing books and supplies for your course – as well as options for childcare or helping you figure out your best travel options for getting to college.
Our award-winning Students’ Union is also a brilliant place to access support for personal issues (such as LGBTQ+ rights), get your views heard and have your chance to shape how the college operates.
