Careers Advice at The Sheffield College

Careers service

The Careers Advice Team at The Sheffield College offer free and informed careers education, information, advice and guidance to all students. The team works across the college and offers support at all sites.

Our experienced Careers IAG Advisers are fully qualified (up to Level 6 and 7) in providing expert and impartial advice and guidance. Students can book confidential one-to-one appointments to look at all of their progression options, including:

  • University
  • Apprenticeships
  • Employment

With the support of an advisor, students will create a personalised careers action plan with SMART targets, intended to motivate and support students in their journey to a dream career. Ongoing support is available throughout the various stages of career planning and decision making.

Throughout the year the team delivers a comprehensive and engaging careers programme of workshops and talks, utilising current labour market information so that the information you receive is as up to date as possible. Subject specific careers education is also provided through tailored tutorials within students' study programmes.

The Careers Team are Matrix accredited and are committed to working towards achieving the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks of good careers guidance and the Quality in Careers Standard Award. The Careers Leader for the college is Sarah Kettlewell (Head of Student Participation & Careers), who is a Level 7 qualified careers practitioner. The college’s CEIAG policy is reviewed every 2 years and can be accessed here.

Partnerships and external events

The Careers Advice Team work in partnership with various external agencies to provide the best student experience possible.

The team are currently working in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University and The University of Sheffield to deliver the NCOP project (HeppSY+), which provides enhanced information and support to widen participation in higher education.

The team also has excellent links with local employers, training providers, other colleges and universities, and regularly arrange guest speakers and external educational visits.
