Outdoor Apprenticeship Level 2

This Apprenticeship programme offers you an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn. As an apprentice you will study on the job, building up valuable knowledge and skills and gaining qualifications. You will be paid a wage at the same time. Four days a week will be spent with an employer and one day per week you will be studying at college. Training in this way provides you with job matched qualifications and a direct link into employment.

About the Course

The course is made up of a range of qualifications and you will learn about the sport and coaching, leadership, sport as a business, safeguarding and protecting young people and leading a healthy lifestyle. You will also study anatomy and physiology, injuries in sport and planning, delivering and evaluating a sport/leisure activity.

You will spend the majority of your week in a sport or leadership environment. Whilst you are at work you will have regular visits from your college tutor who will help you achieve your qualification by demonstrating your skills and knowledge.

At college you will work towards a technical certificate in sport and will be expected to study Functional Skills in Maths or English where necessary and, depending on your workplace, will have the opportunity to study for additional National Governing Body Awards in Sport. These may include emergency first aid at work and awards which include:
  • Basketball and football coaching
  • Fitness instructing courses at Level 1 and 2
  • Community Sports Leadership Award
  • Bronze Medallion Swimming Award
  • Pool Lifeguarding

The Sheffield College already has good links with local employers, but applications from students who already have a placement are particularly welcome. If you do not already have a placement with an employer, you are expected to arrange one yourself. You can view our latest apprenticeship vacancies here.
