About this Course

Over the course of this two-year qualification, every classroom lesson and workshop session will prepare you to hold your own in the construction industry. You'll get an insight on how the industry works before exploring the principles of design and the role of technology and sustainability.

Key Units

Year one walks you through the carpentry workshop, introducing you to the woodworking basics and meeting the tools of your trade. You will also build transferable skills and knowledge that'll set you up for success on any construction site.

Year two is when the carpentry and joinery really kicks in. In workshop sessions, you get to grips with your year 2 programme units.

Key units on this T Level include:
Year 1:
  • Health and safety
  • Science, design, construction and the built environment
  • Industry
  • Sustainability
  • Measurement
  • Building technology
  • Information and data
  • Relationship management
  • Digital technology
  • Commercial/business
Year 2:
  • Preparing to produce complex timber-based building products and structures
  • Producing complex timber-based components
  • Assembling complex timber-based products
  • Installing complex timber-based products into complex structures
On your 45-day industry placement, you'll tackle an employer-set project to give you hands-on experience in a real-life setting. This is your moment to put all that year-one theory into practice while you also develop skills that serve you for the rest of your career: communication, teamwork and problem-solving.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English and Maths.

Interested in doing a T Level, but worried you haven't got the entry requirements, or feel that you might need more time to get ready for one? We offer a T Level Foundation Year which is a one-year, post-GCSE programme designed to get you T Level ready. It will give you technical knowledge, practical and study skills, English and Maths, work experience and support tailored to you and your chosen T Level and future career path. Apply for the T Level today and a member of our team will be in touch to discuss your options.

Assessment

There are several formal assessments during the two years: external exams, controlled assessments, practical summary assignments and an employer-led set project.

Together, the assessments generate an overall grade of pass, merit, distinction or distinction*.

Upon successful completion of your T level, you'll receive a nationally recognised certificate with a clear breakdown of your achievements. The T level can be worth up to 168 UCAS points.
