About this Course

Throughout this apprenticeship you will spend the majority of your time (usually four days a week) working and learning with your employer as you develop your portfolio and professional floristry and customer service skills. You'll spend the remaining day each week in college building on your knowledge of health and safety as well as your practical skills. Alongside your four practical units you will also develop your essential health and safety knowledge (gaining a Basic First Aid Certificate) whilst also expanding on your understanding of the order taking process and developing your awareness of your professional development in the industry. If you have not already done so there will also be an opportunity to obtain a City & Guilds Certificate in Customer Service. Once completed you will be well placed to enter a supervisory or senior florist role within the industry.

You will also learn how to:
  • Negotiate and agree terms and conditions for the sale of floristry products and services
  • Plan, assemble and evaluate diverse floral designs
  • Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security of the workplace
  • Manage your own resources
  • Build working relationships with customers

In addition to your main floristry qualification you will also study:
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths
  • One additional Certificate in either Retail Knowledge (pending approval) or LANTRA Award in Business for the environmental and land-based sector.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs grades A* - C (or acceptable alternatives) including English Language and Maths.


There are no formal examinations as part of this qualification, however you will need to put together a portfolio of evidence learned throughout your employment and work in college. 

Where does this Lead

Successful students continuing in employment can progress onto a Higher Apprenticeship or into employment.

Future Opportunities

Once successfully completed this qualification could lead to a Supervisory or Senior role within the floristry industry.

Will the course suit me?
This course is suitable for those who wish to gain a floristry qualification while in employment and develop their careers within the industry. You will need to be practically minded and be prepared to do some study in your own time.

At The Sheffield College's Hillsborough Campus you will learn from staff with a range of floristry qualifications and floral industry backgrounds. There are excellent practical facilities available for Floristry and Horticultural courses.

Qualification Title
The qualification will form part of the Apprenticeship framework for Floristry and you will gain a City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Work-Based Floristry.
