About this Course

The Core Construction Skills (Joinery) programme is designed to prepare people to enter the construction industry as joiners and carpenters. This programme will give you a thorough grounding in the practical aspects of joinery, enabling you the opportunity to progress to a Trade Diploma upon successful completion.

Key Units

This programme, through a learner-focused progression plan will further develop your core construction skills at Level 1 by completing the 6706-13 Diploma in Construction.


Units delivered include:
  • Use of Hand Tools
  • Use of Power Tools
  • Woodworking Joints
  • Principles of Building
  • Health & Safety

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grades A*- E / grade 2 or above, including English Language. 

Assessment

  • Exams
  • Coursework
Your progress will also be reviewed regularly in tutorial sessions. 

Where does this Lead

Successful completion of all the elements of this programme may lead to progression to a Trade Specific Diploma, or onto an Apprenticeship.

Future Opportunities

A qualification at Level 1 will lead to opportunities at Level 2 and then a successful career in the carpentry and joinery industry.

Extra Costs

You will be required to provide/purchase your own PPE, including:
  • Overalls
  • Safety boots
  • College shirt
All other safety equipment will be provided on an as/when needed basis. You may wish to purchase your own tools which you can then use in your Apprenticeship/future employment.

Students in financial hardship can apply to the Student Support Fund for help with course related expenses.
