About this Course

This evening course is ideal for anyone with an interest in woodwork as a hobby, or who is interested in taking up furniture making as a career. Over the 12 week course you will develop your design and craft skills through a bespoke project of your own design, using a range of woodworking tools and machines. This course is delivered by Anna Childs, an experienced furniture maker who runs her own furniture making business in Sheffield.

Key Units

The course is very flexible and can be adapted to suit each individual learner.

You will be taught the use of hand tools and sharpening, the use of portable power tools and machining, and traditional jointing techniques.

There are set projects you can make, such as a dovetailed box, a stool or a table, or you can design and develop your own piece.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course; enthusiasm and commitment are all we ask for.

Assessment

No formal assessment. A college attendance certificate will be issued upon completion of the course.

Staff Expertise

This course runs with a maximum of 15 students, so you can be sure you will have sufficient input from your tutor. You will be taught by Anna Childs, an experienced furniture maker and designer who runs her own furniture making business in Sheffield. This is a great course for anyone with an interest in woodwork as a hobby or looking to take up furniture making as a career.

Delivery Mode

This is a part-time course, delivered at City campus one evening per week (typically a Wednesday evening, 6-9pm).

This is a full cost course with no funding available. Course fees are currently:

One semester: £240
Two semesters: £480

Extra Costs

Basic wood materials will be provided, however students will need to provide other materials themselves.
