About this Course

The occupation covered by this standard is Construction Site Supervisor and typical job titles can include: Assistant Site Manager, Assistant Supervisor or Construction Site Supervisor. In the case of SME construction companies the roles are likely to include Site Manager or Site Supervisor. They are associated with the supervision of specialist contractors and workers on construction projects and are based on construction sites with occasional time in offices.

Key Units

As an Apprentice you follow an appropriate Level 4 HNC qualification in Construction and the Built Environment while gaining experience in the workplace and recording this in a professional Off-The-Job log. All Apprentices are supervised and mentored by the employer in partnership with The Sheffield College. 

Completion of HNC, the Off-The-Job Log and Maths and English will allow progression through Gateway to an End Point Assessment test (EPA).

The duration of the Apprenticeship will be three years for new entrants. The End-point Assessment (EPA) will be in two stages and typically undertaken in the last three months of the apprenticeship:

Maths and English is essential at Level 2 (GCSE A-C) in order to pass through Gateway to EPA.

The course is delivered at The Sheffield College on a part-time basis. This means attending for 1 full day a week for 3 Years. The course begins in early September. You will study 4 units per year.

  • Unit 5 Responsibilities in Construction

  • Unit 1 Individual Project

Year 3 is dedicated to honing the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours necessary in order to pass End Point Assessment and achieve the full qualification.

Entry Requirements

Level 3 Diploma in Construction, A Level at a grade A*- D and GCSE’s at grade 9 (A*) – to grade 4 (C) (Maths, English and Science are essential and other GCSE result must be associated the relevant construction and design topics). 


Mature students with equivalent qualifications or technical experience gained whilst working in the industry, may be admitted at the discretion of the course team.

Assessment

The End Point Assessment must be completed within an EPA period lasting a typically 6 months, beginning when the apprentice has passed the EPA gateway.

The EPA consists of 3 assessment methods.

The individual assessment methods will have the following grades:

Performance in the EPA will determine the overall apprenticeship standard and grade of:

Where does this Lead

Apprentices who have completed the Construction Site Supervisor Level 4 Standard may progress to study a Degree, in a Construction related course at an appropriate university.

Future Opportunities

This Apprenticeship will include the knowledge, skills and behaviours typically required to achieve Technician status or the equivalent with the industry’s recognised professional bodies. The final assessment process for this Apprenticeship will typically be representative of the review process required for professional registration.
