About this Course

City & Guilds dog grooming courses can help you become a dog groomer or build on an existing career in the industry. Our dog grooming training focuses on the principles and practices of modern dog grooming techniques. The Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants is for anyone who wants to start working in the industry - ideal if you don't have any previous qualifications or experience in dog grooming.

Key Units

To gain the Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants students must undertake assessments for all mandatory units 1-6 (total of 18 credits) plus a minimum of 5 credits from the optional units, with a total credit value of 23 credits.

Mandatory Units

Unit 1: Preparing and grooming dogs prior to bathing [4 credits]
Unit 2: Bathing and cleaning dogs [3 credits]
Unit 3: Cleaning and maintaining equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals [1 credit]
Unit 4: Controlling and restraining animals [2 credits]
Unit 5: Drying dogs and preparing coats for styling [3 credits]
Unit 6: Basic trimming of a dog’s coat [5 credits]

Optional Units

Unit 7: Carrying out reception duties [2 credits]
Unit 8: Handling payments from clients [2 credits]
Unit 9: Welcoming, receiving and caring for visitors to sites [3 credits]
Unit 10: Moving animals between locations [2 credits]
Unit 11: Maintaining the cleanliness and bio security of the animal care working environment [5 credits]

Entry Requirements

No specific prior qualifications, learning or experience are required for students who wish to undertake this qualification.

However, due to the nature of learning and assessment, candidates will need good literacy and numeracy skills, i.e. the ability to read and interpret written tasks, to write answers and complete documents in a legible and understandable form and to make calculations. Candidates will also need to be able to organise written information clearly and coherently, although they will not be assessed for spelling or grammatical accuracy unless these are part of the assessment criteria.

Assessment

For the Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants assessment methods include written assignments, question and answer papers, practical demonstrations and an online GOLA exam.

Where does this Lead

On completion you will gain the Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants. This is the prerequisite for the Level 3 Dog Grooming Diploma which will enable you to go on and take prior to meeting certain requirements. You must complete Level 2 prior to taking Level 3.
