About this Course

This study programme is designed to help you build the knowledge, skills and experience needed when working with children and young people in a school setting. The course is aimed at mature students (aged 19 and over) who want to work in a supervised capacity across any aspect of education with children and young people aged from 5 to 19.

Key Units

The course follows two strands across all 11 units. There is a 'knowledge' based element and a 'to be able' element.

The placement will provide opportunities to prove your understanding in practice, demonstrating the 'to be able' requirements. The 'knowledge' aspect will be delivered and assessed using digital platforms, software, discussions, presentations and shared active learning in college classwork sessions.

Expected college time is one day per week and a placement (of your choice) can be one day, or split across two days.

Entry Requirements

  • GCSE grade 3 or equivalent in English Language and Maths
Experience of working with children or young people in some capacity will help you gain the most from the course.

Assessment

A combination of written, practical or observed tasks across 11 units, taking place both in college and on placement.
