A Sheffield College floristry student is celebrating after winning a national industry award.
Elizabeth Askam is one of the winners in this year’s British Florist Association’s Education Awards 2020. The awards recognise the effort, commitment and hard work that students put into achieving their qualifications.
Elizabeth has received an award for achieving the highest theory marks in the Higher Diploma in Professional Floristry at Level 4. She is completing her studies whilst also working as an Assistant Manager at Plantology Floral Creations in Sheffield city centre.
Elizabeth said: “It’s great to receive this recognition. The course is demanding and challenging but highly rewarding, developing knowledge, commercial awareness, botanical concepts, organisation, self-confidence and floristry industry skills.”
She added: “The tutors are outstanding. They bring their experience of the industry to the classroom with the use of innovative ideas and academic and practical techniques.”
Joanne Biddle, Training and Assessment Facilitator in Floristry, who is based at The Sheffield College’s Hillsborough Campus, added: “Elizabeth has worked extremely hard and applied herself 100% to both the theory and practical elements, developing the skills to go further in her career.”
She added: “Elizabeth achieved these fantastic grades whilst working full-time in the floristry industry. She is a brilliant and inspirational student and we can't wait to see what she will achieve next on the Master Diploma in Professional Floristry Level 5 qualification.”
