Inspirational manager makes the Glu Recruit 2022 Office Heroes shortlist

An inspirational Sheffield College manager has been recognised as an office hero in a regional business award.

Scott Cotterill, Programme Manager, Employer Engagement, Higher Skills Higher Growth, achieved a finalist place in the Glu Recruit 2022 Office Heroes Awards.

The judging panel comprised business and civic leaders including Master Cutler Julie Kenny DBE DL and Lord Mayor of Sheffield Sioned-Mair Richards.

Scott made the shortlist of ten finalists. He was nominated for his positive attitude and professional skills, and his commitment to updating his knowledge, skills and expertise.

Scott said: “What a surprise, it was an absolute honour to be put forward for this award. It is lovely to get this recognition.

“My role is so varied and has lots of different aspects to it. I love it, no day is the same and there is always an element of a pleasant surprise. The College is a great place to work.”

Rachel Topliss, Head of Employer Engagement, The Sheffield College, said: “Scott’s enthusiasm and his outlook and positive energy are infectious.”

She added: “Scott is an excellent role model who is always willing to help others, find solutions to any challenges and build on his skills set. Nothing is ever too much trouble, he is a true team player.”

The awards ceremony took place at the Leopold Hotel in Sheffield on December 2nd, 2022, and the overall winner was Charlotte Palmer of Clear Quality Ltd.

Higher Skills Higher Growth offers free support to small and medium sized enterprises, start-ups and micro-businesses in the region.

The scheme is delivered in partnership by Sheffield Hallam University, The Sheffield College and RNN Group, and is part-funded by the European Social Fund Programme 2014-2020.

Its free support for businesses includes:

  • the provision of links to funded initiatives to help businesses innovate and grow.
  • matching skilled graduates and students for short and long-term projects and placements.
  • workforce upskilling and professional development programmes.
  • collaboration with sector-specialist academics to solve organisational problems.
