This means ensuring all people with a disability can access the workplace and be supported through their journey with any reasonable adjustments needed.

What is Disability Confident?

Level 3 Disability Confident Leader status is awarded to organisations making real, measurable efforts to promote a disability-confident culture in the workplace.

As well as internal development for staff, this includes a commitment to automatically offer interviews to disabled candidates who meet the minimum requirements for a job as well as make any reasonable adjustments during the interview process.

How does it look in college?

Our values aim to create a space that enables employees to be supported and perform to the best of their ability. We believe disability shouldn’t be seen as a barrier to employees, and aim to empower everybody to build success.

All employees of the college have access to support resources, including:

  • Reasonable Adjustments Passports
  • Wellbeing Rapid Action Plans
  • Occupational Health
  • Health Questionnaires
  • Disabled Car Parking (If Required)
  • Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Access to Work
  • Mental Health First Aiders

We also regularly undertake a range of CPD activities on topics such as:

  • Neurodiversity
  • SEND
  • Hearing Impairments
  • Dyslexia awareness
  • and more

All staff undertake Disability Equality Awareness training as part of their induction and all managers are trained in Disability Confident.

Reasonable Adjustments

We want to hire the best people for the job based on skills, experience & values. That means supporting people to be comfortable and able to show their best selves during the recruitment process and beyond.

At every stage, we’ll ensure that any reasonable adjustments necessary are made. Including but not limited to:

  • Ensuring the interview room is accessible and properly equipped
  • Offering support with communication
  • Adapting selection exercises by allowing additional time
  • Encouraging a support worker to attend the interview
  • Providing candidates with an outline of the interview questions prior
