Staff at The Sheffield College are celebrating after winning a regional business award.
The Student Employability Services Team’s efforts have been recognised at the Insider Yorkshire Young Professionals Awards 2024.
The team won the Young Professional Team of the Year category announced at a ceremony held at New Dock Hall in Leeds on 1st February.
Celebrating leading professionals aged 35 and under, the college team were praised for supporting students to go further in their careers and forging strong industry partnerships.
Rachel Topliss, Director of Student Employability Services, The Sheffield College, said: “It is fantastic to win this award for the second year running.
"We aim to equip our students with the skills and knowledge to prepare them for their future employment and careers.
“The team has taken employability skills to a new level this year! Thank you to everyone involved and the excellent service that they give to our students.”
The team provide a range of services that develop students’ employability skills to help them secure employment or to progress onto further or university level study. These services include the college’s own Employment Services Agency that matches students to temporary, fixed term, part time and permanent job opportunities.
All students have the opportunity to register with the agency, as part of a ‘learning guarantee’, which offers advice on CV writing, job interviews, using social media to secure a role, making decisions on job offers and careers guidance.
The team has also launched a digital badging initiative. Nationally recognised and created in partnership with Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, the initiative is a way of formally recognising different types of employability activity completed by students.
In addition to this year’s award win, the college’s Caroline Norton was also shortlisted in the Young Business Professional of the Year category.
