Donna Howard, corporate responsibility manager at Kier Regional Building North & Scotland
Kier is a UK construction, services and property group active in building and civil engineering, support services, public and private housebuilding, land development and the Private Finance Initiative. They have been operating since 1992, and over the last three decades, the company has expanded their remit from local schemes to some of the UK’s major construction projects and initiatives, including the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) to bring the UK’s first high-speed railway line into London St Pancras station.
Their purpose is to deliver economic and social infrastructure which is vital to the growth of the UK. They operate in a number of different markets and across many sectors. The services they offer to their clients fit into two core market propositions; Construction and Infrastructure services.
Their vision is to be a world-class customer focused company that invests in, builds, maintains and renews the places where we live work and play. They have supported and developed many projects to support their CSR initiative including working in partnership with career wales, having a work experience programme which is offered to schools and colleges across the UK and they are currently at around £157 million of social impact.
As a young woman on a course in an industry that has previously been male-dominated, I feel really confident and motivated to do my best and to prove that construction is for males and females. I think it is important to break the mould, to show that construction is for anyone.
