We provide high-quality academic, technical and vocational training to enhance skills and employability across Sheffield and beyond!

Rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, we’re now on our journey from Good to Great. Continuing to unlock opportunities for thousands of people in the local community.

We want to recruit talented people who believe in what we do to help us achieve four key ambitions:

  • Learning: to be a first choice provider, recognised for high quality, relevant education and training
  • People: to be a place where people want to work, recognise for our inclusive and aspirational ethos
  • Partnerships: to play a leading role locally, regionally and nationally, with a reputation as a strong and reliable partner
  • Sustainability: to be a financially and environmentally sustainable organisation

Who we are

Inspired by our partnership with ‘The National Centre For Diversity’, our FREDIE+ values are what we stand for as both a college and individuals.

How this looks day-to-day

To bring these values to life, we clearly outline the practical actions that make the college a high-performing, inclusive space for everybody.

Putting these behaviours into practice is how we’ve built a space where everyone is empowered to be great at what they do.

Finding inspiring people who share our ethos is how we keep it that way.

Apply now if you want to build success alongside positive people who embrace this mindset.

What we'll do for you

We understand the importance of staff wellbeing and development, knowing that a great student experience starts with fulfilled people.

We’re all on a learning journey, and we have a dedicated people development team and clear frameworks to ensure staff at all levels are constantly growing their skills.

We also offer extremely competitive pensions, benefits & annual leave.

New to teaching

If you join us as a lecturer and don’t already hold teaching qualifications, we can fully support you towards getting them.

We’re extremely open to people coming from a non-teaching background and you can be enrolled on a Level 5 teaching course within the first 12 months of starting if desired, fully funded by the college.

You’ll be entitled to 42 days annual leave + bank holidays as well as an impressive teachers' pension contribution from us.

We’ve also started enrolling new staff on the government's ‘Taking Teaching Further’ programme, where new teachers in shortage areas like construction, engineering and healthcare are eligible for a £6000 incentive!

Whatever type of role you’re interested in, we’re committed to giving our staff every opportunity possible to build success.

Share your goals with us, and we’ll work with you to help you achieve them.

Our action on equality

Diversity and Inclusion are more than just words at The Sheffield College

They’re part of our core decision-making and embedded into everything we do.

Our mission of ‘transforming lives through learning’ starts with building a team as diverse as the community we serve. This requires more than sentiments and words– it requires action.

The clear action we’re taking is evident from our recent achievements:

"Most Improved Organisation of the Year"

6th in the Top 100 Most Inclusive Workplaces Index 2022 (UK)

College of Sanctuary status

The Sheffield College is a disability confident leader.

Level 3 Disability Confident Leader status is awarded to organisations making real, measurable efforts to promote a disability-confident culture in the workplace.

As well as internal development for staff, this includes a commitment to automatically offer interviews to disabled candidates who meet the minimum requirements for a job.

We’ll also make any reasonable adjustments needed during the recruitment process and beyond.

How to join us

This is how we do recruitment. Open, communicative, and fair.

Step 1: Apply
Complete the application form thoroughly so we can understand your experience and see if we think you're a good fit for the role. Remember to read the job specification attached to the advert as the criteria listed will be how your application is assessed.
Step 2: Shortlisting
A diverse panel, consisting of the hiring manager and other interviewers, will separately assess and score all applications. To ensure unconscious bias isn’t a factor, they will only see your work history, qualifications and statements in your application— not your personal information such as name, age or gender.
Step 3: Interview
If selected, you’ll have a face-to-face interview so we can get to know you. Depending on the role, you may also be asked to prepare a task. For teaching roles, this will normally be a 15-minute ‘Microteach’ presented to the panel or a small group of learners. We’ll provide materials to help prepare this if you're new to teaching.
Step 4: Offer
If your interview is successful and both sides think it’s a good fit, we’ll make you a formal offer (hurray!). The salary we offer will be based on your skills, experience and the pay of existing staff in the same or similar roles to ensure fairness.
Step 5: Onboarding
We have lift off! Once your vetting is complete, we’ll work with you to arrange a start date. Your first couple of weeks will be jam-packed. You’ll meet the rest of your team and participate in a busy induction schedule to learn the ropes and familiarise yourself with the college.

Service Leavers

As part of our commitment through the Armed Forces Covenant, we’re pledged to support the Armed Forces Community. Recognising the value Personnel, Veterans and military families contribute to our community and country.

We’re proud to have numerous ex-forces staff who have gone on to build amazing careers with us.

You can read about their experiences, see what making the switch to further education would look like, and explore what our commitment through the Armed Forces Covenant means for you here.

Our responsibility for the safeguarding and welfare of our learners is a key part of our student-first approach.

Safer recruitment practices are implemented to ensure the people we bring on board are appropriate for the role and that our students learn in a safe environment.

The processes we use are designed to identify and reject any candidates who don’t meet these criteria and are unsuitable for a role within education. We follow the guidance outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education to achieve this.

Information for recruitment agencies

The Sheffield College requests that recruitment agencies do not forward CVs speculatively or in relation to any of the roles advertised on our website. Should we require any recruitment agencies involvement we intend to work solely via our Master Vendor provider, Protocol.

The Sheffield College will not:

  • Recognise submissions of unsolicited or speculative CV applications from recruitment agencies.
  • Be liable for any fee / commission should we employ a candidate that applied to us directly or through an instructed agency that may also have been submitted as an unsolicited or speculative application from an uninstructed recruitment agency

In the event that a recruitment agency submits an unsolicited or speculative CV and then purports to render a claim for commission supported by correspondence and/or documentation containing a disclaimer indicating otherwise, our policy prevails.
