AOC Beacon Awards
The Sheffield College is finalist in the Careers and Enterprise Company Award for Innovation in Careers and Enterprise category at the 2020 Association of Colleges’ (AoC) Beacon Awards. The award celebrates outstanding examples of careers education and guidance.
Celebrating the best and most innovative practice among UK further education colleges each year, the College has been recognised as a Beacon commended college in two of the awards categories - the Careers and Enterprise Company Award for Innovation in Careers and Enterprise, and the City and Guild Award for College Engagement with Employers - for reaching AoC Beacon Standard.
Quality in Careers Standard
The Sheffield College has achieved a national quality mark for the careers education, information, advice and guidance provided to its students.
The College has been awarded the Quality in Careers Standard for demonstrating a consistently high standard of practice.
Investors in Diversity Award
The Sheffield College has achieved national recognition for demonstrating its commitment to equality and diversity.
The Investors in Diversity Award, from the National Centre for Diversity, demonstrates that the values of fairness, respect, equality, diversity, inclusion and engagement are at the centre of decision-making in the workplace.
Talented student nets national basketball award
A Sheffield College student has won a prestigious national basketball award.
Abbey Whitehouse, 16, won the Most Valuable Player Award from Basketball England in the Women’s Elite Basketball League.
Inspiring teacher awarded prestigious national accolade
An inspiring Sheffield College teacher won a prestigious Technical Teaching Fellowship award. Nick Hart was awarded a Fellowship from the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) in partnership with the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851.
Fellowships are given to outstanding practitioners who are recognised for their high impact teaching practice and the delivery of effective outcomes for learners.
Nick is a Learning and Development Coach for Engineering and Construction at The Sheffield College, and was one of four individuals nationally awarded the fellowship.
Trainee chefs compete in Zest Quest Asia final
Talented Sheffield College catering students won a place in the national finals of a prestigious competition backed by one of the country’s top chefs.
Three of the College’s trainee chefs Connor Johnson, Oliver Herrington and Ben Addy, all aged 18, competed in Zest Quest Asia.
Ambitious apprentice in the Make UK Manufacturing Awards shortlist
A business administration apprentice has been shortlisted in the Make UK Manufacturing Awards. Estelle Smith is based at leading Sheffield manufacturer Gripple where she is completing a four-year apprenticeship programme.
Estelle, aged 21, was one of the finalists from the North East, Yorkshire and Humber region of the Business Apprentice of the Year: Final Year category. The award recognises apprentices’ significant contribution to supporting the business activities of their employers.
Inspiring journalism lecturer honoured in news media industry awards
A Sheffield College lecturer has been honoured for inspiring the next generation of public interest journalists through his teaching.
Sam Cooper is one of 17 journalism educators nominated by their peers, students and alumni to be included in the Public Interest News List from Behind Local News.
Backed by the National Council for the Training of Journalists, News Media Association and Society of Editors, the list showcases who has really made an impact in the industry by underpinning democracy and holding power to account.

Disability Confident Leader
The Sheffield College has achieved the highest level of a national award scheme, demonstrating its commitment to supporting staff with a disability.
The college has been awarded the Disability Confident Leader Level 3 status by the Department of Work and Pensions. This is the highest level of the government’s Disability Confident Leader scheme and the College is believed to be the third employer in Sheffield to achieve it.
AoC Sport Awards
An inspirational Sheffield College student has been recognised in a national competition for his contribution to sport and volunteering. Tesfahun Awoke was a runner-up in the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport Awards 2019 in the Inspirational Student Volunteer of the Year category.
Tesfahun has completed around 400 hours of volunteering at the College. He is also supporting his local community by being a mentor in the Big Brother Burngreave project.
Trainee bakers scoop ABST competition medal haul
Sheffield College baking students scooped a haul of awards in a national industry competition.
The college’s trainee bakers won nine gold, three silver and four bronze awards in the annual Alliance for Bakery Students and Trainees (ABST) 2019 competitions.
Educate North Awards
The Sheffield College was shortlisted in the Educate North Awards.
The awards celebrate, recognise and share best practice and excellence in the further and higher education sector in the North. The college was a finalist in the Employer Engagement Award category.
Curtis Packaging Centre of Excellence double first prizes
Talented graphic design students won two prestigious industry awards.
Two UAL Extended Diploma in Graphic Design students won both of the first prizes in this year’s Curtis Packaging Centre of Excellence design competition. Charlie Congreve, 17, won the packaging construction award category. Jonah Jerrison-Cater, 17, won the graphic design award category
Salon Culinaire medal wins
Sheffield College catering staff and students won a medal haul at one of the country’s largest food service and hospitality events.
Two staff and four students won two gold, one silver and three bronze medals in the Salon Culinaire in Birmingham. The annual event attracts scores of competitors from the industry as well as colleges and universities and aims to showcase the skills and talent within the sector.
