University of Sheffield A Levels Employer Skills Academy

The University of Sheffield A Levels Employer Skills Academy enriches the experience of A Level students by providing valuable insight into higher education and university life. 

Developed in partnership with the University of Sheffield, the academy combines academic study with employer-led activities, helping students build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to progress successfully to university and future careers. Through workshops, campus experiences and specialist support, students gain a better understanding of the opportunities available to them after college.

About University of Sheffield A Levels Employer Skills Academy

The University of Sheffield A Levels Employer Skills Academy has been developed to enhance the learning experience of A Level students by providing valuable insight into higher education and university life. Through a collaborative partnership between The Sheffield College and the University of Sheffield, students are supported to make informed decisions about their future progression and career aspirations.  

Throughout the academic year, students take part in a range of enrichment activities designed to complement their studies and develop key academic and personal skills. Employer-led workshops, masterclasses, projects and university visits help students gain a better understanding of what to expect from higher education while building confidence in their ability to succeed.  

The academy supports students as they prepare for their next steps, helping them develop independence, resilience and the academic skills required for university-level study. By experiencing aspects of university life first-hand, students are better equipped to make confident choices about their future and achieve their ambitions. 

Students will develop knowledge and skills in areas including: 

  • Higher education pathways and opportunities  

  • Personal statement writing  

  • University application processes  

  • Critical thinking and research skills  

  • Academic writing and study techniques
