What career have you always dreamt of achieving?
There must be one, no matter how ambitious. One that you used to talk about when you were at school, draw pictures of or even dress up as.
A career that you could see yourself doing for the rest of your life and absolutely love doing every single day; a footballer, an astronaut, a paramedic…
For most of us, that career dream will mostly depend on what you’re interested in. It may also depend on what you think it is possible.
We’re here to show you that anything is possible with hard work and the right qualifications!
At The Sheffield College, we have the qualifications to help you get you those careers. All you need to bring is the hard work!
Check out these 5 you can achieve by starting your career journey with us:
If you’ve been playing basketball in your spare time since you were little, chances are you’ve been dreaming of a chance to turn pro and play in the NBA. For any basketball lovers amongst you, it’s got to be the ultimate career but how do these opportunities come up?
Other than getting scouted on the court for your team, our Elite Basketball Academy is a top way to get yourself in front of scouts across the country and the continent.
Alongside your studies, you will train with professional coaches, compete in elite leagues (both in this country and in Europe!) and develop the skills you need to become an elite performer.
5 of students were even offered stateside scholarships in 2021/22 with many more getting picked to play for their national side.
Our programme is recognised by Sport Basketball England as part of the England Development Programme for basketball in Yorkshire and we are the only college in the region to deliver this qualification.
Have you aways wanted to help other people? To treat people with diseases that don’t have a cure yet and save millions of lives?
Being part of the research team that makes medical breakthroughs in the search for new drugs or medical products is one of the most important jobs around the world.
You might not be directly looking after people on a face-to-face basis, but by using new technologies to conduct research and experiments, you could help unlock the cure to diseases like cancer and improve the quality of people’s lives.
If this is a career you’re interested in, our health and social care qualifications are the perfect starting point as you work towards a medical degree and gaining some lab experience.
All space fanatics would love to work for NASA but not too many people get the opportunity to do it as an astronaut.
That’s not because it’s impossible, but because there are only ever a few positions available at any one time.
A different route to making your mark on our atmosphere and beyond would be to train as an aerospace engineer. Aerospace engineers have the job of researching, designing and building spacecraft and satellites, providing ways and means for us to continue space exploration.
As an aerospace engineer, you’ll need to obviously have an understanding of engineering, physics and computer aided design (CAD), but you’ll also need to be a top-class problem-solver and have unreal attention to detail.
One of our engineering qualifications is the perfect place to start!
What does the home of the future look like?
With space at a premium and global targets to reduce emissions creeping ever closer, architects are being challenged to design buildings that don’t disrupt ecosystems and create healthy living environments by using new technologies and ideas.
Amongst other things, sustainable architects need to consider the materials that they are using, the land that they are building on, and how they can achieve their goals whilst reducing energy and waste.
Sustainable architecture is going to be a crucial job with the opportunity to be inventive, improve the quality of living, reduce our impact on the environment and, importantly, look great!
Take a look at our construction qualifications to get the skills you’ll need to start your career.
The world has never been more connected which is great news if you’re thinking of starting a business.
Advancements in technology and the internet now mean that it’s pretty straight forward to get set up and sell your products to the connected world.
What isn’t as easy is making sure that your business succeeds. For every business that launches each day, just as many – if not more - close down due to a lack of profit, investment or time. You need to consider the following:
And then there’s a million other things to think of as well that will jump out at you at the last minute.
So, whilst it’s easy to start a business, you need to make sure you have the qualifications to help you be a success.
