Which programme is right for me?

Picking the right programme is the first step in your sporting career! There are loads of different pathways to choose from, including Sports Coaching, Fitness or Primary School Education. Whether you choose a full-time study programme and pick your own specialism, or apply to study a university level programme, we're sure to have something that suits you and your learning style.

What kind of work will I do on a sport study programme?

Of course the exact nature of the work you will do depends on the course that you choose, but all of our sport programmes share some common themes such as:

  • lots of practical work - sport is a physical activity so it stands to reason that your course will comprise plenty of hands-on and practical activities
  • teamwork - working as a team is essential for sport in any form, so you'll do lots of group activities and assignments throughout your course to build up your skills
  • placements and experience of work - what better way to prepare you for the world of work other than to experience it first hand? We encourage all of our students to obtain placements or experiential opportunities during their course to enhance their CV and career prospects!

Trips, Visits and Competitions

Studying sport in one of the best sporting cities in the country means that you'll have loads of opportunities to visit professional venues, such as the English Institute of Sport and Ponds Forge International Sports Venue.

We’ve got links with hundreds of local employers meaning you’ll get every opportunity possible to engage with professionals during your time with us. This could include seminars hosted by guest lecturers who work in the industry, work placements with the biggest names in sport or trips to some of the leading sports establishments in the world. These are the experiences that will make you stand out to future employers and universities, and we’re on hand to give them to you.

Work-related Activity and Industry Placements

As a student at The Sheffield College you will be encouraged to spend time with an employer in a real life working environment as part of your study programme. This could be experience of work or an industry placement, depending on what kind of course you are studying.
