Performing Arts and Music

Welcome to Performing Arts and Music

The biggest thing that all drama, musical theatre, acting, dance and music students have in common is the desire to perform, rehearse and perform some more! Our students are always performing in our fully equipped theatre and at venues across Sheffield, using our TV and dance studios, recording studios and rehearsal spaces to bring their visions to life.

What goes on behind-the-scenes is crucial to a good performance. If you prefer to be backstage or behind the camera, we have lots of exciting opportunities for you to be working in our TV studio, edit suites and on our lighting rigs to direct performances or produce props for the show.

“I chose The Sheffield College because of the friendly feel I got on my first visit during an Open Day. The college has given me a lot of different opportunities which have constantly opened new doors to different career paths. I am now studying Theatre and Performance Technology at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.”

Jake Childe, former Production Arts student

Which programme is right for me?

Picking the programme is the first step in your performing arts and music career! Whether you choose a full-time study programme and pick your own specialism, or apply to study a university level programme, we're sure to have something that suits you and your learning style.

Trips, Visits and Competitions

We know that you can only learn so much in the classroom. To be really confident in your skills, knowledge and abilities you'll need a variety of practical experiences. Luckily, you can do jsut that with us!

Throughout your studies, you will have the opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals so that you can learn from their experience. Whether that's attending a local show or performance, or participating in a guest masterclass, we know that getting that first hand experience is vital.

Our performing arts and music offer really is a step up from anything you will have experienced before! We've invested millions into our Hillsborough Campus, transforming it into our creative hub.

Off-stage you will learn to work in professional setups, including our fully-rigged lighting rig and sound desk. Music students can take advantage of using our sound-proof rehearsal rooms, recording studios and editing suites.

At our Hillsborough Campus you'll also have access to:

  • a gym, a 3G sports pitch and a sports hall which is available for use for all, not just those studying sport

What can I do once I finish my studies?

No matter which specialism you choose, you'll participate in numerous professional-standard productions throughout the year. Working alongside students from all areas (acting, dance, music and production arts) will help you to hone your teamwork, time management and organisational skills, all key attributes that any employer is after.
