This study programme is for students who want to start a career in animal care and want to progress directly to employment in animal care, or to an animal care Apprenticeship. This qualification has been developed in consultation with employers in the animal care sector to make sure students develop the skills and behaviours that will give them the best chance when applying for work. Students will cover topics such as animal welfare, feeding and handling, a well as undertaking a mandatory work placement.
This qualification is a two year, full-time course that specialises in the animal management sector. It is designed for students who wish to focus their studies on this sector, with a firm intention of progressing to employment in one of the wide variety of roles available. The new BTEC Nationals have been created in collaboration with employers and representatives from higher education and relevant professional bodies so you know that the content is up to date and that it includes the knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes required in the sector. Students will cover topics such as breeding and genetics, animal welfare, animal behaviour and practical animal husbandry.
This Level 1 qualification in Animal Care is ideal for students who are passionate about animals and want to learn more about how to care for them. You will develop your skills in areas such as preparing food and housing, grooming and health checking, as well as how to properly restrain animals. You will also cover some personal and social development, including working safely, working as a team and how to prepare for an interview.
City & Guilds dog grooming courses can help you become a dog groomer or build on an existing career in the industry. Our dog grooming training focuses on the principles and practices of modern dog grooming techniques. This course is ideal if you are wanting to gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a professional dog groomer. However, you must hold City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants in order to start this qualification. You will need access to a variety of different breeds and coat types which you can bring into college for examination assessments. Please contact the college for further information on this.
