BA (Hons) Music Performance & Production (Top-up)
The BA Music and Performance degree-level programme will help you develop independence and proficiency in music composition, performance and/or production. You will learn about and use music professionalism and entrepreneurial skills to prepare for work in the music industry. We will explore cultural, social and business contexts in shaping your own music practice and develop interpersonal, communication, networking, marketing and leadership skills needed for success.
Sheffield has a thriving music scene. From small metal, rock and indie venues, to iconic venues such as Electric Studios, O2 Academy, multiple night clubs and Sheffield Arena, Sheffield offers a large variety of live music each night of the week. City-centre recording studios such as Steelworks, The Foundry and Red Tape, along with multiple smaller recording studios provide world-standard facilities to local musicians.
The music programme team have strong links with the local music scene and the programme supports students in making their own links. Performances will be in the venues that employ musicians and sound engineers. The aim is for students to be practicing musicians within the local music industry as part of and alongside their study.
The Sheffield College is focused on kick-starting your career, and this is embedded into the design of the programme. The programme's aim is to not only develop musicianship but to prepare students for success in what is a challenging but exciting industry. There is an embedded focus on supporting students to enter industry and develop skills that will not only progress musicianship, but also the ability to complete the programme with the competencies to be an autonomous musician in industry. There is also a focus on supporting students through the wider wrap-around offer at the college, as well as at programme level.

Student case study
“I would definitely recommend [UC Sheffield] to people who wanted to do anything music related, because it will help them a lot. Every year all the equipment would be improved...learning to use the digital desk really helped me because it's exactly the same equipment being used in professional venues. The tutors were really supportive, I couldn't complain about anything with them, it's been perfect.”
