Leadership training

Leadership training can take place through a college apprenticeships programme to gain management qualifications, skills burst sessions, or a leadership development programme delivered by one of our partners.

Training is available themed around ‘Coaching from the Middle’, ‘Solutions-focused Leadership’ or our in-house ‘Aspiring Leaders Course’. This internal course develops the skills you need to empower those around you and steer your career where you want it to go.

Teaching Qualifications

If you’re joining as a lecturer and don’t already hold teaching qualifications, we’ll fully support you towards getting them.

We can enrol you on a Level 5 teaching course within your first 12 months of starting, fully funded by the college.

You’ll have reduced teaching hours and allocated space in your timetable to complete this, giving a good balance of practical experience and your own learning.

As a Lecturer, you’ll be entitled to 42 days annual leave + bank holidays as well as an impressive teachers' pension contribution from us.

We’ve also started enlisting new staff on the government ‘Taking Teaching Further’ programme, where new teachers in shortage areas like construction, engineering and healthcare are eligible for a £6000 incentive!

Development days

Throughout the year, we hold regular Development Days where day-to-day duties are put on hold.

You can choose what sessions to book based on which sessions you think you’ll get the most out of.

These days are engaging and beneficial from a professional development perspective, but plenty of sessions are also themed around your health and well-being.

Induction Pathway

As soon as you join the college you will be enrolled on an induction pathway designed so we can get to know you and you can understand where you fit into helping us realise our vision.

The pathway includes self-driven learning and attendance to face-to-face events such as meet and greets with the leadership team.

Health & Wellbeing

The mental health and well-being of our team & students is paramount. Every year we organise initiatives to help build understanding and promote a healthy work culture and healthy staff.

This includes sessions within development days and other dedicated programmes of events, as well as initiatives like cycle-to-work and quality healthy eating options on-site.

You will also have regular opportunities to be trained as a Mental Health First Aider.

Curriculum Quality

If you’re looking into teaching roles with us, we have dedicated ‘Head of Quality Teaching Learning and Assessment’ (HQTLA) functions in each department to support you in achieving quality.

There are also Learning and Development Coaches to support your ongoing teaching development.

If you’re new to teaching these coaches will start to mentor you as soon as you join us!

Weekly academy-specific CPD is structured and driven through our HQLTAs. Academy CPD also links to wider strategic aims covered through larger events in innovative ways such as Teach, Tech and Research Meets.

And Much more

Wherever you want your role within education to take you, we’re committed to giving our staff every resource possible to build a rewarding life-long career.

Be open about your ambitions & goals, and we’ll work with you to help see them through.
