Financial Support

Here at The Sheffield College, we want you to be able to focus fully on your studies, without having to worry about money. That’s why we support our students to receive the right financial support for their situations. Depending on eligibility, you could get financial support for travel to college, course equipment, meals, or childcare, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team to discuss your needs and how we can support you in getting funding help for your time at college.

Careers Advice and Guidance

Our Careers Advice Team offer our students careers education, information, advice, and guidance, helping them to get on the right track with their progression. As a student at The Sheffield College, you’ll be able to get involved with workshops, talks, and tutorials to help you decide on the right next steps for your career goals. Our Careers Advice Team has excellent links with local employers, training providers, other colleges and universities, giving them a wide range of contacts to best support our students.

Health and Well-being Support

Your mental health and well-being are one of our top priorities when you become a student at The Sheffield College, and that’s why we’re committed to giving you all the support you need during your studies and beyond. Our Students’ Union and Safeguarding teams regularly host well-being cafes, including mindfulness activities, additional support from dedicated professionals, and an opportunity for quietness amongst the hustle and bustle of college life. Each of our campuses have teams of mental health first aiders, providing a safe space to talk to anyone who needs a listening ear, and if you feel like you need some one-to-one support at any point during your studies, you can speak to our professional counsellors through the Listening Service.

Childcare

We’re incredibly proud of our on-site nurseries at our City and Hillsborough Campuses, each of which provide high quality educational and social experiences for children aged six months through to seven years. Any students needing childcare to manage their studies can apply to the Care to Learn fund or the 20+ Childcare Support fund. You can speak to our Admissions or Student Funding Team if you need any support in submitting these applications.

SEND and Additional Learning Support

At The Sheffield College, we make it our responsibility to remove barriers so that all of our students can thrive and reach their potential. We ensure our teaching, support, and curriculum experiences enable learners with SEND to grow in confidence, independence, and aspiration. We have an extensive team of qualified and experienced specialists on hand to support students with physical access, personal care, adapting course materials, specialist equipment and resources, specialist provisions, and Exam Access Arrangements.

Travel

Whichever campus you’ll be based at, you can rest easy in the knowledge that each location is well served by public transport, and there are many deals students can get to help them with any travel costs. All of our main campuses are on major bus or tram routes, and we’ll be happy to help you plan your route if you need any support. Our Student Central Team can offer you advice on the travel products and available student discounts as well as how to apply for a 16-18 Travel Pass.

During your time at The Sheffield College, if you’re ever unsure about where to turn or need support with anything, you can always head to Student Central and someone will be able to help you there and then, or point you in the right direction. Being a student at The Sheffield College means we’ve got your back and will do all we can to get you the support you need to stay on the right track for your progression.
