About this Course

This study programme is designed to help you build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in a school setting. The course is aimed at mature students (aged 19 and over) who want to work in a supervised capacity across any aspect of education with children and young people aged from 5 to 19.

This study programme is designed to help you build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in a school setting. The course is aimed at mature students (aged 19 and over) who want to work in a supervised capacity across any aspect of education with children and young people aged from 5 to 19.

There are three knowledge-based units

The 'knowledge' aspect will be delivered and assessed using digital platforms, software, discussions, presentations and shared active learning in college classwork sessions.

Expected college time is one day per week for three months.

Key units:
  • PWS1 Understand schools as organisations 
  • PWS2 Understand how to keep children and young people healthy, safe and well 
  • PWS3 Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults 

Entry Requirements

This programme has no formal entry requirements, however experience of working with children or young people in some capacity will help you gain the most from the course.

A basic understanding of computer literacy would be beneficial.

Assessment

The 'knowledge' aspect will be delivered and assessed using digital platforms, software, discussions, presentations and shared active learning in college classwork sessions.

Where does this Lead

Students who successfully complete this qualification may progress to a Level 2 Certificate or straight into employment.

Future Opportunities

This qualification may enable students to gain employment in the education sector across a wide range of support roles.

The full cost for this course is approximately £282. If you are unemployed and in receipt of benefit or earning below the low wage threshold, the course is fully funded.
