About this Course

The qualification is delivered over 4 weeks and has been designed to give an understanding of what counselling is and consider the skills and qualities required to be a counsellor. Each session will last for 2 hours and is an ideal starting point for anyone interested in considering a potential career in counselling or other helping roles.

Key Units

The qualification will be delivered online one evening a week from 6 - 8 pm over four consecutive weeks by one of our counselling tutors.

Students will develop an understanding of what counselling is and what skills and qualities are required to work effectively within the profession. This is a non-accredited qualification therefore it does not have any units or modules, just themes each week that relate to counselling and developing better communication skills.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.

Assessment

Within the sessions, you will take part in group and individual activities to enable you to gain knowledge and understanding of counselling and the use of listening skills. At the end of the session you will have an opportunity to reflect on what you have learnt and capture your reflections in a course booklet.

Where does this Lead

After completing this qualification, you might be interested in progressing onto either Level 2 Helping Skills or Level 3 Counselling Skills (depending on your previous experience and qualifications).

Extra Costs

The full fee for this course is approximately £50. If you are unemployed and in receipt of benefit or earning below the low wage threshold, the course is fully funded. If you are 19-23 you must have already achieved a full level 2 to qualify for the funding above. If you do not meet this criteria you will pay 50% of the full fee.
