About this Course

The Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation will equip students with a deeper understanding of electrical science and how this applies to electrical installations and wiring systems. You will also start to prepare for work in the industry by developing your professional communication skills, with a view to progressing on to a Level 3 Diploma or NVQ, or perhaps an Apprenticeship.

Key Units

The City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation will equip students with a deeper understanding of electrical science and how this applies to electrical installations and wiring systems. You will also start to prepare for work in the industry by developing your professional communication skills, with a view to progressing on to a Level 3 Diploma or NVQ, or perhaps an Apprenticeship. 

The programme is delivered over the course of one year (full-time) and teaching is spread across three days in college. This qualification is a mix of theory and practical-based studies, and you will learn the theory behind electrical installation through a combination of practical demonstrations and tutorials. 

On top of your time spent in college you will also be required to undertake independent study, as well as working towards the required GCSE/Functional Skill qualifications if you do not already hold these. 

Prospective students should note that if you're overall aim is to become a qualified electrician, this qualification alone will make you a competent electrician for work in the industry. In order to pursue a professional career in electrical installation you must complete additional qualifications.

  • Installation of Wiring Systems and Enclosures
  • Communication Within the Industry

Entry Requirements

Level 1 Electrical Installation and English, Maths and Science at grade 4

Assessment

  • Exams (4 of the 5 modules you will study have an exam element)
  • Written assignments
  • Practical assignments 

Where does this Lead

After finishing this qualification you could choose to progress on to study one of the following in order to complete your training:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation
  • NVQ Level 3 (alongside employment)
Alternatively, students may opt to undertake an apprenticeship in order to gain practical experience. 

Extra Costs

Students are required to have appropriate safety footwear for all practical classes.


You will also need to source your own supplies such as pens, paper etc. This should include a scientific calculator. 

Students in financial hardship can may be eligible to apply to the Student Support Fund for help with course related costs.
