About this Course

This study programme focuses on the practical development and application of knowledge and skills required by anyone wishing to pursue a career in the Creative Industries, specifically Fine Art. The programme is designed to help you to discover and develop your talents, interests and strengths in a wide range of specialist disciplines including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, applied arts, ceramics, visual communication, illustration and animation.

Key Units

You will work on a series of project briefs that are dynamic and responsive to current design trends, in order to help prepare you for employment in the industry or further specialised study.


Key units will include:
  • Unit 01: The Creative Process
  • Unit 02: Developing Creative Practice
  • Unit 03: Responding to a set brief
  • Unit 04: Researching a Specialist Industry Practice
  • Unit 05: Specialist Technical Skills Development
  • Unit 06: Specialist Creative Outcome

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs grades A*-C / grade 4 or above (or acceptable alternatives), including English Language and an art-related subject or portfolio of artwork.


If you do not already hold a minimum of grade C/4 or above in GCSE Maths/English Language you will continue to study for these (or a Functional Skills qualification) alongside your course.

Assessment

Modular assessment for each unit completed throughout the course - this is usually based on coursework and project work.


At the end of the second year you will undertake a final project. The work from this will be exhibited in an end of year show.

Will this course suit me?
An ideal student for this course is one who is motivated with a desire to learn and express their ideas visually. As the course is assessed entirely by coursework you need to have good time management skills and be able to work to targets and deadlines.

Extra Costs

Students are required to provide their own basic equipment as well as pay a studio fee (approximately £50) towards the cost of materials provided by the college. You will also be expected to contribute towards the cost of any trips and visits.

Students in financial hardship may be eligible for help towards course related expenses from the Student Support Fund.
