About this Course

This programme of study is focused on supporting you to transition from school to college. This course will provide you the opportunity to develop a range of skills towards employment and independence. It will be a mix of practical and classroom-based delivery. You will work towards a qualification from the King’s Trust and study functional English and maths.

Key Units

On this programme, you will study learn and develop the following:

  • Personal social development to increase confidence, resilience and to promote mental health and wellbeing 
  • Employability and future planning 
  • Health and Well-being delivered by a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Coach 
  • English and Maths qualifications (Functional Skills or GCSE)

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements to most of our programmes. We ask that young people come with a willingness and readiness to engage in learning. 

Assessment

You will be assessed in a variety of ways. These include: 
  • External assessments for your English and Maths qualifications 
  • Portfolio assessment – King’s Trust Achieve 
  • A variety of assessment tools to measure progress made on soft skills

Where does this Lead

  • Learners may progress onto further technical study at Level 1 and 2 at The Sheffield College 
  • Learners may exit to employment or further training

This pathway has been designed: 
  • As a first step into post-16 education 
  • To develop social, emotional and personal well-being skills 
  • To create opportunities to take part in practica and engaging activities 
  • To enable young people to improve their English and maths skills and personal and social development so they can progress to their next step 

This qualification ensures that all learners are given the same opportunities to access appropriate and relevant education, and improve their life chances. This pathway is intended to last 1 year but is flexible for young people needing an additional year.

You will receive high levels of support from both the Curriculum and SEND Team. You will have a dedicated Personal Tutor and Student Mentor during your time at the college. Class sizes are small, and the curriculum is designed to meet your individual needs. Our dedicated SEND Team will support you as you transition into college and to ensure that your individual needs are met.
