About this Course

This Level 3 networking and cyber security course prepares learners for IT roles, covering network engineering, project management, access control, ethical hacking, network management and much more.

What you can study

On this course learners will study 5 units to create a portfolio of work. The units are as follows:

Project Management

Learners will understand project management concepts and the processes and tools used by organisations to manage IT projects. They will learn about project management methodologies and use project management software to plan an IT project, track progress, and review the outcomes to determine project success.

Access Control

Learners will understand the purpose and methods of controlling access to systems. They will learn about the concepts of identity, authentication, and authorisation, and explore how they are used to manage access control in organisations.

Ethical Hacking

Learners will understand the role of ethical hacking in testing the security of networks, using techniques such as penetration testing and social engineering. Learners will also explore some of the tools and techniques used to identify vulnerabilities and the countermeasures that can minimise cyber attacks.

Network Management

Learners will understand network management functions and the tools and technologies required to manage networks. They will develop skills in interrogating a network to identify network assets and configure and carry out routine network management activities.

Network Threats and Vulnerabilities

Learners will learn about types and sources of network attacks and develop the skills and understanding needed to plan and protect a network. They will also learn how to configure devices and software to improve network security.

Entry Requirements

This is a part-time course for adults. Learners must be aged 19+.

All applicants need to complete an English and maths initial assessment following the pre-enrolment, unless you can provide evidence of sufficient level of English and maths required for the course.

Supported by the National Skills Fund, this course is free for all learners who do not already have a Level 3 qualifications, making it ideal for someone in employment who is looking at retraining.

Learners must have a good basic knowledge of IT / using computers and a keen interest in the subject.

As the portfolios will be built electronically learners should have a competent standard of Maths and English.

Assessment

All work will be gathered in an assessed portfolio submitted electronically.

Where does this Lead

Learners can progress to entry roles in IT or undertake further study at level 3 and above both vocational and apprenticeships.

This course will be delivered as part-time blended learning, face to face 3 hours a week 5-8pm for 35 weeks with the expectation of additional study online.

You might be eligible for fully funded courses depending on your circumstances.

This will be assessed during your IAG (Information Advice and Guidance) interview in the enrolment process. If you are unemployed or employed part-time or earning under £23,400 per year, and you receive means tested benefits, you are likely to be eligible.

Extra Costs

The full cost for this course is approximately £1645. If you are 19 or over and have not already achieved a full level 3 qualification or if you are 19 or over and earning below the low wage threshold this course is fully funded. You may be able to apply for an Advanced Learning Loan for this course. Please note all quoted fees are subject to change.
