About this Course

The Foundation Degree in Sport Business Management aims to provide students with a solid grounding and understanding of the key elements of managing sports events and sports businesses. You will study a wide range of units, from sport research to marketing and management and leadership skills. *Subject to validation*

Year 1

Core modules:
  • Sport Research in Practice
  • Developing Management and Leadership Practice
  • Principles of Marketing and Finance for Sport Managers
  • The Sport Management Environment
  • Management of Sport in Society
  • Managing the Business of Sport Events Facilities Operations

Year 2
Core Modules:
  • Research in Sport Business Management
  • Organisational Behaviour & Human Resource Management (including Work Based Learning)
  • Applied Marketing and Finance
  • Enterprise and Innovation in Sport

Optional modules are to be confirmed. 

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 64 UCAS points from study on a Level 3 programme, preferably from subject-related qualifications.


Applicants over the age of 21 years will be considered without the formal entry requirements but who have experience of the sport and exercise industry.

Please note that students wishing to progress to top-up degree courses may be required to hold a GCSE Grade C or above in English Language and Maths (or equivalent qualifications).

Where does this Lead

On successful completion of the course, you will be well placed to gain employment in roles at a supervisory level within the industry or to gain promotion to middle management or above if currently employed.  All students will be encouraged to develop additional, professional qualifications throughout the course which will further improve employability. Such qualifications will include national governing body Coaching awards, fitness industry qualifications and first aid courses.

Extra Costs

Students will be required to complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check upon enrolment, the cost of which is approximately £52. The cost of maintaining the DBS clearance will be met by the student. Whilst this is not a specific requirement to study at the college it will be difficult for students with endorsements to find placements within the industry.
