Key Units

Careers you can train for with a Construction and Building Apprenticeship include: 

Carpentry and Joinery 

A Carpenter and joiner are found in both the new build and refurbishment construction sector. The role would include working with building materials (most often wood) to install and create requirements for buildings. 

Bricklayer  

A Bricklayer is responsible for creating a high-quality product that meets standards, specifications and design plans, they are also expected to ensure the health, safety and well-being of themselves and others at all times. 

Civil Engineering  

A Civil engineer is a role found in the construction and engineering sectors and are employed in a variety of organisation types and sizes. The role will include supporting the planning, designing, building, management, maintenance, or dismantling of built environments. 

Construction Site Supervisor  

A Construction site supervisor is a role found in the construction and building trades sector and is responsible for overseeing everyone working on a construction site, which includes members of the construction team and any subcontractors. 

Construction Support Technician 

A Construction support technician is responsible for using digital processes and systems to secure future projects and to enable progress and completion of actual construction sites. 

Construction Quantity Surveying Technician  

A Construction surveying technician is responsible for collecting information from site inspections to inform advice to clients on land, property or construction. 

Fitted Interiors Installer  

A Fitted interiors installer is found in the new-build, renovation and refurbishment section of the construction and built environment sector. The role will include measuring and marking out interior systems projects, installation of building materials and interpreting drawings to complete projects. 

Painter and Decorator  

Painters and decorators are found in the new build and refurbishment sectors of the construction sector. The role will include working with clients to complete the work in line with requirements, preparing painting surfaces, applying paint, varnishing and other finishes and hanging wallpapers and other decorative products. 

Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician  

A Plumbing and domestic heating technician is responsible for fitting and servicing domestic water, heating and drainage systems. 

Property Maintenance Operative  

A Property maintenance operative can be found across multiple sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, education, commercial and leisure. The role will include day-to-day maintenance and repair work using a broad range of skills (carpentry, joinery, plumbing and plastering). 

Plasterer  

A Plasterer is a skilled tradesperson who applies plaster and cement mixtures to interior and exterior walls and ceilings of buildings. 

Interior Systems Installer  

A Interior system installer installs, repairs and maintains various elements of the internal structure of different building. The sector includes diverse projects in hotels, schools, airports, football stadiums, hospitals and shopping centres. 

Gas Engineering Operative  

A Gas engineering operative installs and maintains gas appliances in homes and commercial building. You would advise customers how the appliances work and how to use energy efficiently. 

Civil Engineering Senior Technician  

A Civil engineering senior technician manages, coordinates and provides the technical planning, design, building management, maintenance or dismantling of the built environment such as building, structures, parks and public spaces including schools, offices and hospitals. 

Piling Attendant 

A Piling attendant is a role found in the construction and building trades sector. The role would include driving heavy steel tubes into the ground, installing mini piles, working with technical plans and operating machinery. 

Low Carbon Heating Technician  

A Low carbon heating technicians are found in both new build and existing properties and typically involve the installation, service, fault finding and repair of zero carbon heating and hot water appliances. 

Installation and Maintenance Electrician  

An Installation and maintenance electrician installs, maintains and repairs electrical systems such as electric vehicle charging and solar panels in industrial, commercial and residential areas.

Individual employers will set the selection criteria for their Apprenticeships. 

Assessment

During your standard, you will develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours to ensure your readiness for your End Point Assessment (EPA).
