About this Course

This pathway is designed to give you the knowledge, understanding, and practical skills needed for employment in a range of health and social care settings. It is ideal if you would like to work with individuals of all ages and backgrounds, supporting their health, wellbeing, and social care needs. This course prepares you for work in environments such as care homes, hospitals, community healthcare, and social services.

Key Units

The Health and Social Care qualifications at Levels 1, 2 and 3 provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to work in a wide range of health and social care settings. The courses are designed to build upon core concepts and gradually expand into more specialized and practical areas as students' progress. Some of the modules covered in this area include Human Growth and Development, Effective Communication in Health and Social Care, Equality and Diversity in Health and Social Care, Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care, Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs, Work Experience, and more... 

The T Level in Health and Social Care is a two-year qualification designed to prepare students for a career in the Health and Social Care sector. The course combines classroom-based learning with industry placements, equipping students with the knowledge and skills required to work in health care, social care, or related fields. The T Level is equivalent to three A-Levels and is structured around core content and occupational specialism. As part of the entry requirements for this course, an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) will be conducted on prospective student.

Health and Social Care Level 1 

4 GCSEs at grade 2 including English Language + DBS check 

Health and Social Care Level 2 

4 GCSEs at grade 3 including Maths plus English Language at grade 3 or above + DBS check 

BTEC Health and Social Care Level 3 

5 GCSEs at grade 4 including English Language and Maths 

 

Health and Social Care T-Level Foundation Year 

5 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including a grade 4 in Maths or English 

 


Assessment

Health and Social Care Levels 1, 2 and 3: Classroom-based learning assessed using written assignments, portfolio work, practical tasks, and observations. Includes work placement opportunities at Level 2.

Where does this Lead

Health and Social Care Apprenticeship: You could progress onto an apprenticeship which would allow you to conduct work-based learning assessed through assignments, observation, and witness testimonies. You would be working for an employer for most of your time and studying at college toward your qualification for a minority of your time.


Upon successful completion, you could seek employment as a care worker, support worker, healthcare assistant, or progress to further study with our Foundation Degree in Professional Practice (available at The Sheffield College university level provision: UC Sheffield) or a full degree programme at university.

Future Opportunities

This qualification can lead to employment in a wide range of private and public settings such as hospitals, care homes, community support services, residential care, and rehabilitation centres. You could also work in specialised fields such as mental health, disability support, and elderly care.


Foundation Degree in Professional Practice (Higher Education level): Continue your studies with progression onto our Higher Education programme, as part of The Sheffield College’s university level provision: UC Sheffield. You can study the first two years of your degree programme with us (Level 4 and Level 5), and then progress onto Sheffield Hallam University to complete your degree in a specialism of your choice.

Will the course suit me? 
This course is ideal for motivated, compassionate people who are interested in pursuing a rewarding career in Health and Social Care. Experience in studying Health and Social Care is beneficial, but not necessary.

The college offers excellent facilities to support your learning, including fully equipped simulation rooms, interactive learning environments, and access to industry-standard resources.

You will have the opportunity to engage in various enrichment activities such as industry visits, guest speaker sessions, workshops, and community-based projects. You can also pursue additional qualifications such as first aid or manual handling certificates. 

Extra Costs

A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is required for students going on work placements and will be carried out at the start of the course. Students will need to pay for this, and the cost is approximately £47.00 and a Tunic that will cost approximately £15.00
