About this Course

The course is aimed at young people who have a keen interest in sport and fitness and would like to pursue a career in sport and active leisure. This course will suit you if you wish to gain knowledge, understanding and the skills for working in sport and leisure in a variety of different roles.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grades A* - E / grade 2 or above (or acceptable alternatives), including English Language. 

Assessment

The course is assessed through a variety of different assignments. Each assignment is marked by your unit tutor and you need to gain a pass in each unit to successfully complete the course.  

Where does this Lead

After successfully completing your course you can progress onto one of our full time Level 2 Sport and Fitness Pathways or our sport apprenticeship programmes or other appropriate course with The Sheffield College.

What else will I gain? 

Throughout this practically based course you will take part in several trips and visits aimed at increasing your understanding of the range of job roles and opportunities within the sport and active leisure industry. In addition, you will complete a residential experience and community action project as part of a National Citizenship programme. This will help you to gain a range of skills and experiences that will support your career progression.

You will learn from highly qualified, expert staff with a range of academic and industry specific backgrounds. There are also opportunities to take part in a range of sports both recreationally and competitively.

Extra Costs

If successful you will need to make sure you have sports clothing and trainers appropriate for taking part in sport and fitness. You will be required to wear your very own sports uniform T-shirt for all your practical lessons and also when attending any trips to meet potential employers.


Students in financial hardship may be eligible to apply to the Learner Support Fund for assistance with course related costs, such as purchasing uniforms.
