Key Units

This dynamic course contains all the learning required to secure a role within hospitality where the focus is food service. It is designed to meet the needs of the industry and gain a recognised City and Guilds qualification.  Anyone who has achieved their Level 1 qualification and wants to progress further or anyone who wants to prepare for further training in the hospitality and catering sector could benefit from this qualification.  

Learning will take place in our renowned Silver Plate Restaurant alongside experienced professionals from the industry. The restaurant provides a splendid foundation in which students can develop their new skills in food service. Core skills include customer service, communication skills, body language and team-working. There will also be exciting opportunities to compete in national competitions and take part in major events with our industry partners/sponsors.

The qualification comprises of a number of units designed to provide a holistic approach to the students learning.  The units are:
  • Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
  • Work effectively as part of a hospitality team
  • Give customers a positive impression of self and your organisation
  • Maintain food safety when storing, holding and serving food
  • Maintain and deal with payments
  • Prepare and clear table areas for table service
  • Serve food at the table
  • Prepare and clear the bar area
  • Serve alcoholic and soft drinks
  • Prepare and serve hot drinks using specialist equipment

Entry Requirements

Those who have achieved their Level 1 qualification and want to prepare for further learning in the hospitality and catering sector to progress 

Assessment

Continuous assessment is carried out throughout the year by observation, underpinning knowledge and questioning.

Where does this Lead

Once the course is completed, it would be  possible to progress onto other qualifications, such as:
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership

Roles such as a barista, bar tender, reception or food service team members could also be applied for.

Extra Costs

A restaurant uniform will need to be purchased and worn for practical lessons in the Silver Plate Restaurant.
