About this Course

BTECs focus on the holistic development of the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills required to be able to succeed in employment and higher education. Employers are looking for recruits with a thorough grounding in the latest industry requirements and work-ready skills such as teamwork. Higher education needs students who have experience of research, extended writing and meeting deadlines. The two-year Diploma starts by exploring the different organisations, ownership, and business structures within travel and tourism sector and examines how effective marketing and customer service provision is linked.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4 or above including maths and English

Assessment

Assessment is by a variety of methods including research-based reports, work booklets, time-constrained assignments, role-plays and presentations. There are also two externally assessed (exam) units on Level 3, these come in the first year. A large amount of private/ independent study is also required. 

Where does this Lead

The Diploma is the educational equivalent to two A-Levels.  Many students progress straight into work or an apprenticeship. However, it is also possible to continue your studies, at a higher level, by progressing onto a Foundation Degree course at a wide range of universities.

  • in the Entertainment Team at a holiday park in North Wales
  • for Jet2 based out of Leeds Bradford Airport as cabin crew
  • as part of the Guest Relations Team at a hotel in Hurghada, Egypt

To help you gain the career experience that you need to go further, the Work Related Activity team will explore opportunities for work placements and industry talks or visits. They, and your tutors will guide and support you to build and develop key employability skills, and enhance your CV to make sure you’re confident and ready for work. Some of this is online so you can work at your own pace.

Residential visits in the UK are normally planned to link with different units and the full programme will be communicated to you during the first few weeks of term. You also have the opportunity to travel overseas for a two-week placement incorporating work experience, activities, cultural visits, language development and more.

Extra Costs

Contributions towards off-site visits will be required.


For those in financial hardship you may be eligible to apply for support with course related expenses from the Learner Support Fund.
