About this Course

The Level 2 Pre-Access qualification is designed to prepare students to undertake an Access to HE Diploma, with the view to progressing to university level study. Taught by experienced lecturers, this qualification will help you gain the academic skills and subject knowledge required to study on an Access to HE Diploma or other equivalent qualification. You will learn about academic topics as well as covering key concepts in Health, Science, Sociology, English and Study Skills.

Key Units

This qualification is assessed through a variety of task based assignments which would typically reflect the skills required of you on both a Level 3 Access to HE Diploma and also whilst studying for a Higher Education qualification.

This will include, but is not limited to:

  • reports
  • academic essays
  • professional discussions
  • presentations
  • blogs/vlogs
  • campaign posters

Examples of units studied on the Health Pathway are:

  • Human Health and Disease
  • Understanding Diversity in Society
  • Introduction to Psychology
  • Academic Writing Skills
In addition to the health pathway, students will also study for a GCSE in English Language and/or Maths if required, as you will require a minimum of a grade C/4 to enrol on a Level 3 Access to HE programme.

Entry Requirements

Applicants who do not have GCSE English Language at grade C/4 or above are recommended to study this qualification alongside it.

Please ensure you check the individual entry requirements for the Level 3 Access to HE Diploma you wish to study after your Level 2 Certificate. Some diplomas require English Language, Maths and/or Science GCSE.

Applicants should have work/volunteering experience in the sector they wish to progress to or have experience that links to the subject.

Assessment

This qualification uses a variety of assessment methods which reflect the wide skillset required to be successful at Level 3 and higher. Typical assessment types consist of compiling reports, presentations, creating blogs, taking part in academic discussions and symposiums plus much more!

Where does this Lead

Students who successfully complete this qualification will be prepared to progress on to a Level 3 Access to HE Diploma, subject to you meeting the specific entry requirements and standards.

Future Opportunities

Further progression can see students entering Higher Education with a firm grasp of the skills and knowledge required for success.

Extra Costs

Students may wish to participate in trips and visits offered from time to time, however these do not currently form a compulsory element of your studies.
