Key Units

Mixed Media Level 1 
This practical course has been designed to look to the future of the creative industries, enabling the learner to build creative and technical skills, preparing them for potential progression onto a variety of level 2 courses. This is a one-year full-time course which offers an exciting blend of Photography, Film, Graphic Design and Journalism. 

Photography and Journalism Level 2 
The UAL Level 2 Award/Diploma is a one-year course that has been designed to look to the future of the creative industries. It will enable you to build your creative and technical skills, giving you an overall knowledge preparing you for potential progression onto level 3 Photography, Graphics or Journalism courses. 

Film and TV Level 2 
The Level 2 Diploma in Film & TV Production has been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to progress to further study and training in a range of media related subjects. The course includes units in video production, audio production, interactive media and a final major project. 

Photography Level 3 
The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma is a two-year practical and cutting-edge course which looks to the future of the creative industries and enables you to build not only your creative skills but also helps you to understand how to sell/promote your work and set up your own business ready for your future careers. This course is equivalent to three A Levels and is an exciting blend of photography, design and interactive technology. 

Film and TV Level 3 
This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree level or employment in the media production sector. The first year is focused on developing a broad base of media production knowledge and will allow you to explore different video-based production modes such as short film, documentary and adverts. The second year will focus on your creative vision and progression and gives you the opportunity to produce a TV studio multi-camera production and short films. Throughout the programme there will be opportunities to take part in various trips to industry facilities and film festivals. 

Journalism Level 3 
A creative study programme designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to progress to degree level or employment in journalism, creative writing, digital communications, marketing or publishing. 

T Level Creative Media Technician 
If you’re interested in film, camera work, and exploring your creative potential, our Creative Media Technician T Level could be the perfect choice for your future. This course provides you with the skills and knowledge needed to start an exciting career in the media industry. You’ll learn the latest techniques in planning, filming, editing, and publishing professional media content, as well as how to tackle real-world challenges faced by media professionals. 

Entry Requirements

Mixed Media Level 1 
3 GCSEs at grade 2 or above to include English Language. 

Photography and Journalism Level 2 
4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above to include English Language. 

Film and TV Level 2 
4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above to include English Language. 

Photography Level 3 
5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to include English Language. 

Film and TV Level 3 
5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to include English Language and Maths. 

Journalism Level 3 
5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to include English Language and Maths. 

T Level Creative Media Technician 
5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to include English Language and Maths. 

Assessment

Mixed Media Level 1 
All units are coursework based. 

Photography and Journalism Level 2 
UAL Diploma courses are assessed by coursework. You will have set assessment tasks but there are no formal exams. 

Film and TV Level 2 
UAL Diploma courses are assessed by coursework. You will have set assessment tasks but there are no formal exams. 

Photography Level 3 
UAL Extended Diploma courses are assessed by coursework. You will have set assessment tasks but there are no formal exams. 

Film and TV Level 3 
UAL Extended Diploma courses are assessed by coursework. You will have set assessment tasks but there are no formal exams. 

Journalism Level 3 
This study programme is primarily assessed through coursework which may comprise of several elements including, reflective journals, blogs, portfolios, presentations, observations, essays and written assignments 

T Level Creative Media Technician 
The core component will be assessed by one exam and an employer set project 
80% of the course is classroom-based learning and 20% is a work placement with an employer in the media industry.

During the information session, you will receive important details about the course structure and expectations, along with a chance to ask any questions. This is crucial to ensure you understand the course fully and how it aligns with your goals.

At The Sheffield College, you will learn from highly qualified staff with a wealth of experience in both academic and media sectors. The college offers excellent facilities to support your learning, including a fully equipped television studio, podcast studio, photography studios and access to industry-standard resources.

Course enrichment? 
You will have the opportunity to engage in various enrichment activities such as industry visits, guest speaker sessions, workshops, and community-based projects.  

Extra Costs

A facilities fee of £40 per year, is payable at enrolment to allow you access industry standard equipment, studios and facilities for use on and off site throughout the academic year. 

The purchase of some specialist tools and equipment may also be required (e.g. sketchbooks and media storage). This should not exceed £150 p.a. 

There will also be costs for several visits (local, national and international) which are payable in advance of the trip. 

Students may be entitled to help with these costs and other expenses from the college’s?Student?Support Fund
