As part of the Elite Boxing Sports programme at the college, students will have access to up to 15 hours elite boxing training as part of their academic week. Alongside studying towards a vocational sports qualification at the appropriate level to them.
This is a college programme not a boxing club and boxers will remain attached to their current boxing clubs outside of college. The programme will give additional training and opportunities to access boxing facilities to help their development in their amateur careers or quest for a professional career in boxing with their current club.
Students will study towards relevant vocational qualifications alongside their boxing training with clear pathways provided into professional/amateur boxing, progression to University/higher education and pathways to employment in sport. Also, gaining valuable experience in academic areas such as sports coaching and leadership, sport injury, sports officiating, sports nutrition.
Alongside their studies will also have access to elite level coaching, strength and conditioning sessions, fitness equipment, video analysis of performance, physiotherapy for injuries and recovery, opportunities to compete in BUCS Boxing Championships.
Applicants that are accepted onto the John Fewkes' Boxing Academy Programme, will have access to a wide range of vocational courses to study dependent on their incoming GCSE grades.
