You will learn the advanced practical skills and techniques that will equip you for work in this popular and rewarding industry.

Key Units

An ideal student for this course is one who is motivated and passionate about working in the bakery industry and with an interest in making and baking a wide range of cakes, breads, scones and pastries.

You must be flexible and self-motivated. You will need good preparation skills and to be well organised.

There are opportunities to enter local and national competitions where you will be mentored by our highly skilled lecturing staff.

What will I learn? 
Through this course you will further develop your practical and theoretical understanding of weighing and mixing processes involved in the production of a variety of bread and confectionery products. You will also develop further skills around confectionery finishing, packaging and selling techniques and food safety principles. Products in bread and confectionery range from traditional and craft items to modern.

Extra Costs

What will I need? 

You will have the opportunity to attend Alton Towers Resort for the Alliance Bakery Students and Trainees (ABST) conference in June, which includes entering national bakery competitions. The approximate cost of this is £250.

You will also need to purchase some specialist equipment before the start of the course, including a bakery uniform and other equipment. The approximate cost of this equipment is £175.

Those in financial hardship may be eligible to apply to the Learner Support Fund for assistance with course related expenses.
