About this Course

Welcome to the HNC Diploma in Construction at The Sheffield College where we're constructing the builders of tomorrow with our work related course. Accredited by the construction industry, and professional institutions as the nationally recognised technician level qualification prior to university study. You learn by relevant assessments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities. This course serves as your launchpad into the dynamic world of construction, equipping you with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive across many areas of the construction industry.

Key Units

The course is delivered at The Sheffield College City Campus, utilising a blend of in-person and online learning, offering the perfect balance of hands-on experience and virtual exploration. You will attend College in person 1 day per week, and commit to 6 hours of remote independent study for the remainder of the week, where you will be set tasks to complete by your tutor. Our tutors are highly experienced professionals who will guide you through the course, developing your academic skills and wider understanding of the construction processes and industry. Guest speakers and industry visits will further add to your learning and experience. 

You will complete 8 units which align specifically to your subject specialisms. From mastering the intricacies of construction technology to delving into the legal and statutory responsibilities that underpin the industry, each unit promises to expand your horizons and develop your passion.

Entry Requirements

Level 3 Diploma in Construction (Merit Grade) or A level at a grade A*- D and GCSE’s at grade 9 (A*) – to grade 4 (C) (Maths, English & Science are essential and other GCSE results must be associated with the relevant construction and design topics).


Mature students with equivalent qualifications or technical experience gained whilst working in the industry, may be admitted at the discretion of the course team.
