About the Course

The Intensive IELTS sessions are designed to help you improve your speaking and listening, reading and writing skills as well as improving your exam technique. You will study a variety of relevant topics and build on your knowledge of grammar in order to improve your IELTS score.

You will attend 2 classes per week in addition to your General English classes and will be required to study outside of the classroom too. 

You will be able to focus on developing one or all of your skills depending on your requirements, and will be tested accordingly to identify your current strengths and weaknesses.

Please note that classes will include students of mixed ability levels.

Key Units

Intermediate Level

  • Take part in a conversation about work, school and leisure
  • Deal with situations when travelling
  • Talk about topics of personal interest
  • Describe experiences, events, hopes and ambitions

Upper Intermediate Level

  • Understand ideas in complex texts including technical discussions
  • Communicate with reasonable fluency
  • Produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of topics
  • Describe your view point giving advantages and disadvantages

Assessment

  • Continuous assessment, e.g. end of unit / end of term assessment
  • 1 to 1 speaking practice included in the course

Please note that this course does not offer an IELTS examination. You will need to register with an accredited IELTS examination centre on your own initiative.

What can I do after I finish this course?

Hard working students should expect to improve their IELTS by 0.5 for every three months of study. For example, a student studying hard for six months could improve from IELTS 5.0 to 6.0 and access university. 

This course is aimed at students looking to enter universities or needing IELTS qualifications to confirm their level of English on an international scale.
