Accessing our support teams from home

The Student Central Team

The Student Central Team can provide information, advice and guidance before and during studying at The Sheffield College. If you have any general queries or questions, the team will be more than happy to help! Here is a list of some of the main things the team can provide support with:

  • Travel support and planning, which includes: registering and updating Travel Master smart cards
  • Printing college ID cards
  • Student payments such as trips, exam fees and DBS checks
  • Providing updates on Student Support Fund applications
  • Providing proof of Student status letters 
  • Collecting NUS cards
  • Adding cash to your student card (loyalty scheme)

Careers Team

The Careers Team can offer expert and impartial careers advice before, during and after your studies. Once you’ve started at The Sheffield College, you can book an appointment through MyHub and they can offer information, advice and guidance with the following things:

  • Finding out about education, employment and training options
  • University and UCAS
  • Developing employability skills
  • Completing application forms and CVs 
  • Preparation for interviews
  • Creating a positive online presence 
  • Finding jobs and volunteer work

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships offer a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn, and improve your job prospects. You spend one day in college and the rest of the week developing your practical skills and knowledge on the job. The Apprenticeship Recruitment Team offer guidance and advice to anyone looking to start or move onto an Apprenticeship.

The team is available daily for 15 minute drop-in sessions where they can help source an employer or answer any questions about the application process. They can be contacted by email jobconnect@sheffcol.ac.uk.

 

Admissions and Funding Team

You may be eligible for help with the basic (but important!) necessities of undertaking a course at The Sheffield College, including getting to and from college, having the correct/essential books and equipment for your course, and with meals or childcare if required. The Admissions and Funding Team can provide help and support with the following:

  • Free college meals
  • Course-related costs
  • Course fees
  • Travel to college
  • Childcare costs

Safeguarding Team

Safeguarding is about doing everything possible to ensure that all of our students and staff are kept safe and protected from harm. The government provides statutory guidance to colleges on what they need to do to achieve this. The Sheffield College adheres to all guidance and we pride ourselves in going above and beyond to make sure all of our campuses are a safe, happy and thriving environment for all. 

The Safeguarding Team are available to support you with any issues you may have that are making you feel at risk, either in college or at home. They have external agencies that can help you with a variety of issues such as:

  • Being/becoming homeless
  • Domestic abuse
  • Exploitation
  • Online safety
  • Mental health
  • Online counselling
  • The Sheffield Safeguarding Hub

Student Participation and Students' Union

The Student Participation Team and the Students’ Union offer student support and are there to represent students and to ensure their voice is heard. At The Sheffield College there’s a club and society for almost everything, from chess through to film appreciation – more than enough to keep you occupied. Here’s a list of a few below:

  • Badminton
  • Basketball academy 
  • Football
  • Netball
  • Rugby
  • Table tennis
