College signs partnership agreement with major local employer

Staff skills in the local healthcare sector have been given a boost thanks to a partnership between two of Sheffield’s largest employers.

The Sheffield College and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have officially renewed their partnership.

As part of the agreement, the college is training a new round of administration and customer service apprentices for the Trust.

The apprentices are the first cohort from the PROUD Apprenticeship scheme, which is named after the Trust’s values of patient-first, respectful, ownership, unity and deliver.

Angela Foulkes CBE, Chief Executive and Principal of The Sheffield College, said: “We are proud of our partnership with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which continues to evolve as we work together to create education and training solutions that meet workforce needs.

“We have identified areas of strategic significance to the Trust which include attracting new talent and retaining the current workforce. Our renewed partnership agreement and plan put forward a number of academic and technical skills solutions.

“These include engaging with more apprentices, developing bespoke training programmes, and improving English and Maths attainment to help staff progress in their learning and careers, in addition to the provision of high-quality industry placements for our students including those taking T Levels.”

The apprentices will train on the job developing their skills in the workplace whilst earning a wage alongside studying a Level 2 qualification through the college. The partnership agreement was signed during a PROUD Apprenticeship launch event, welcoming the new apprentices, that was held at the Trust on 22nd July 2024.
