The Sheffield College is named as a UK Business Hero

The UK Business Heroes Campaign aims to recognise the incredible work that organisations are doing in the most challenging of years.

Led by the British Chambers of Commerce, the campaign has the Royal stamp of approval and is backed by HRH the Countess of Wessex.

The College, which is an anchor institution in the city with more than 14,000 students a year, was selected as one of 19 UK Business Heroes in Sheffield.

Since the first lockdown in March 2020, all parts of the organisation have pulled together to enable college life and learning to continue, supporting a diverse community including 16 to 18s, adult learners and apprentices.

College staff have also cared for key workers’ children, helped make personal protective equipment for the NHS and delivered vital emergency supplies.

Angela Foulkes, Chief Executive and Principal, The Sheffield College, said: “It’s great to be recognised in the UK Business Heroes awards, thanks to the fantastic efforts of our staff supporting our students and the wider community during the pandemic. I feel very proud to be part of The Sheffield College community."

Matt Jackson, President, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, added: “The Sheffield College responded above and beyond to the NHS’s call for PPE. Whilst protecting staff and students they also helped our frontline workers. Their recognition as heroes is well deserved.”

In a letter to the College, HRH The Countess of Wessex said: “It has given me great pride to hear how businesses have gone the extra mile to help during the Coronavirus pandemic.

“For this reason, I am delighted to support the British Chambers of Commerce UK Business Heroes campaign that recognises the incredible work businesses have carried out across the UK, in the most challenging of years.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your positive contributions, congratulate you on your recognition as a UK Business Hero and wish you every success in your endeavours in the weeks and months ahead as we look to the recovery of the country.”

The College’s pandemic response is featured as a case study on the British Chambers of Commerce website.
