Submitting an application

We want to make it as simple as possible for your young person to make the transition after their GCSEs.

Making a decision about their future career path is a big step in their journey towards independance and although this is an exciting time, we understand that it can also be challenging.

The following information will help you undestand the process better so that you can plan ahead and support your young person in making the right decision.

Applying via Sheffield Progress

If your young person currently attends a Sheffield school, they will need to apply for one of our study programmes via Sheffield Progress. Submitting their application will form part of their tutorial sessions and will be managed by their school, however should you have any questions, our Admissions Team will be able to support.

Applying via The Sheffield College

When to apply

No matter how your young person applies, we recommend that Year 11s submit their applications by the end of February, to ensure they get an interview before their GCSE exams begin.

What happens next?

  1. Wait for a response - Our Admissions Team will send your young person an email to confirm that we have received their application and will start to process it. We process all applications within 14 days of receving them but if you have any concerns, please contact our Admission Team via admissions@sheffcol.ac.uk
  2. Invitation to interview - Your young person will be allocated a date and time which will be sent to them via email and post. If they are unable to attend this time slot, please contact our Admissions Team. A text reminder will be sent the day before the interview.
  3. Interview - It's important that your young person attends their interview to make sure that this is the right study programme for them. Based on their predicted grades and the outcome of the interview, a conditional offer will be made. Be sure to watch the video below for more information about our interview process
  4. Pre-enrolment - Once your young person has been made an offer, they can log into Prospect to complete their pre-enrolment. It will help make their enrolment in the summer quicker and easier. Click here to read our guide to pre-enrolment.

Enrolment

Following a successful interview, your young person will be invited to enrol. The enrolment process involves checking that they've signed up to the correct study programme and that they've got the grades they need. We’ll also complete some other administrative checks to help them get ready for their first day at college. The enrolment process comprises four steps:

  1. Pre-enrolment
  2. Enrolment confirmation
  3. Grades check and induction information
  4. Support check

To find out more about enrolment, head over to our dedicated enrolment page or watch the video below.
