This study programme is for students who want to start a career in animal science and want to progress directly to employment in animal science, or to an animal science Apprenticeship. This qualification has been developed in consultation with employers in the animal science sector to make sure students develop the skills and behaviours that will give them the best chance when applying for work. The students will cover topics such as animal biology, animal welfare, feeding and handling, a well as undertaking a mandatory work placement.
This qualification is a two year, full-time course that specialises in the animal management sector. It is designed for students who wish to focus their studies on this sector, with a firm intention of progressing to employment in one of the wide variety of roles available. The new BTEC Nationals have been created in collaboration with employers and representatives from higher education and relevant professional bodies so you know that the content is up to date and that it includes the knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes required in the sector. Students will cover topics such as breeding and genetics, animal welfare, animal behaviour and practical animal husbandry.
If you want to be a gardener, maintain sports turf as a greenkeeper or groundsperson or work in a garden centre the Level 1 Horticulture could be the qualification for you. It is a practical craft qualification providing a good introduction to the horticultural industry and the development of basic horticultural skills.

This work related course will develop your knowledge, practical and technical skills to work within the horticultural industry.
This Level 1 qualification in Animal Science is ideal for students who are passionate about animals and want to learn more about how to care for them. You will develop your skills in areas such as animal biology, preparing food and housing, grooming and health checking, as well as how to properly restrain animals. You will also cover some personal and social development, including working safely, working as a team and how to prepare for an interview.
