What to expect during Induction Week at The Sheffield College

How do I find out when my induction week starts?

You should have been given a postcard at your enrolment appointment with a QR code that you can scan – this should take you through to MyHub.

Here you’ll be able to see your induction week timetable, with the days and times you will be due in at college during that week. You’ll get your full course timetable during induction.

Where should I go on my first day in college?

When you arrive at your chosen campus on your first day, make your way to the Sports Hall for the time given on your timetable. Your tutor or curriculum team will come down and collect you from the Sports Hall and show you to the right room.

What do I need to bring with me on my first day?

Essentials for your first day will include:

  • Your student ID and lanyard that you were given at enrolment – you'll be expected to wear this at all times when you’re on campus so it’s super important to bring this with you!

  • A notebook and pen – just in case you want to jot down any important information during your induction sessions

  • Any specialist equipment that your tutor has told you to bring in – this might include a uniform, PPE or specific equipment required for your course

What actually happens during induction week?

Induction week is designed to help you settle into life at college – if you’re joining us straight from school you might find there’s a lot of new information to take on board, so we want to make sure you’ve got everything you need before starting your studies.

During induction week you’ll cover things like:

  • Course orientation – you'll meet your tutors and get an overview of what your course will involve over the year

  • An introduction to our new Skills Guarantee

  • College orientation – an introduction to key aspects of college, including a building tour, how to log on to your emails and other IT services etc.

  • How to access student facing services such as the Learning Resource Centres, Student Support Fund and more

  • Career mapping and how to make the most out of the academic year so you can achieve your personal goals

What do I do if I need support and I’ve forgotten to ask about this at enrolment?

You’ll be given a range of materials during induction that outline the services and support available to you as a student at The Sheffield College, including:

  • The Student Support Fund

  • Access to the Student Assistance Programme

  • Disabled Students’ Allowances (if applicable)

You can also visit Student Central, which is our one-stop-shop for all your student support needs and is home to our support staff, Careers Advisers and Students’ Union!

What is Freshers’ Fair and how do I get involved?

Freshers’ Fair is a FREE event designed to welcome you to college with a bang!

On Thursday 19th September at City and Hillsborough Campuses, we’ll have loads of external vendors in college offering up student deals and discounts, plus advice on things like sexual health, mental well-being, managing your finances and so much more.

There’ll also be free food, music, giveaways and loads of freebies to take advantage of. It’s a mega event that’s not to be missed, so make sure to put the date in your diary!
