Courses
Aviation is a fast growing industry with new and expanded airports developing worldwide. This course will suit you if you wish to gain an insight into Airport ground operations. You will explore Health and Safety including the legal framework that supports the industry, the Aircraft Turnaround procedure for arriving/departing aircraft and the carriage of Dangerous Goods in the cargo/hold. PRM’s (Passengers with Reduced Mobility) require extra support at Airports including check-in procedures and travel documentation. The importance of exceptional Customer Service will also be explored.
On this year-long course you will build up a portfolio of work finding out about all the different component industries within the travel and tourism sector and studying subjects such as Customer Service, Visitor Attractions, and Tourist Destinations. As well as looking into holiday destinations in Europe and 'long-haul' areas of the world, you will also be focusing on some of the Coastal Resorts within the UK; this usually involves a study visit to at least one such resort. Another of the units requires you to carry out research into the Events industry and asks you to come with your own innovative plan for an event.
BTECs focus on the holistic development of the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills required to be able to succeed in employment and higher education. Employers are looking for recruits with a thorough grounding in the latest industry requirements and work-ready skills such as teamwork. Higher education needs students who have experience of research, extended writing and meeting deadlines. The two-year Diploma starts by exploring the different organisations, ownership, and business structures within travel and tourism sector and examines how effective marketing and customer service provision is linked.
